Kelly Clarkson has been very busy this year. So busy in fact that according to her, the wedding is off, but, not completely off. It seems that the plans thus far have been for a large and very glittery event and now she is talking about a much smaller and more intimate ceremony than originally planned.
The 31 year-old season one winner of American Idol has not just been busy working on her upcoming Christmas album, but she’s also been coming to grips with being a stepmother to fiance Brandon Blackstock’s two children aged 12 and 6.
Since Blackstock spends most of his time travelling the globe with his client country music singer Blake Shelton Kelly has been spending a lot of time being “super stepmom” and trying to get the two kid’s schedules sorted and, probably, providing a certain amount of ferrying the kids about in “Mom’s taxi.”
Speaking to People.com Kelly shared that the amount of time that her busy schedule takes up, the wonderful and big wedding that was planned for October this year is definitely off. She says that despite her tweets of engagement pictures on Twitter, it has gotten too much for her and Brandon to handle.
Kelly Clarkson’s message is that the wedding is off, or at least the big glittery version is.
The American Idol winner has said that they are thinking seriously about eloping. Kelly said, “We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, ‘So, we change our minds and we want to elope.’ We just got so overwhelmed by it – all the decisions.”
So now, instead of posting excited engagement snaps on Twitter Kelly has posted a picture with the caption, “Thank you so much for understanding, but it’s just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.”
Speaking to Ryan Seacrest about the wedding on Tuesday this week she said, “I’m so over it.”
Apparently the neither Kelly nor Brandon want a big celebratory party after the intimate ceremony. The singer told People.com, “Our whole life is a celebration. That’s what we kept laughing about. We don’t need another day where we throw a big party.”
Another factor in the couple’s decision, over and above Kelly’s and Brandon’s busy schedule, was that when they had sent out notices to people to “save-the-date” things got “crazy” and all of the details got leaked. One thing that also may be a factor is that the current trend for celebrities is small and intimate versus large and extravagant.
While the couple will not be having a big party to celebrate their small wedding ceremony, they will be having a party to celebrate the construction on their house! According to Clarkson, all the people who were invited to the wedding have also been invited to the construction “do.” Kelly says that despite the reason for the party being different, it’s basically the same thing.
Kelly Clarkson has said that the wedding is off, just not the marriage. So apart from the drastic cutting down on guests, she and Brandon are still tying the knot.
