The great idea of offering promotional vouchers on an expensive smartphone is probably one that should be reconsidered prior to another giveaway event. LG recently announced an awesome promotion. The promotion entailed releasing: “100 helium-filled balloons, each carrying a voucher entitling the recipient to claim their 950,000 won ($852.54) smartphone,” reports The Register. The idea was to wait until the balloons gently cascaded upon the gentle winds to grab one and pop it. Consumers had another idea in mind; excited fans reached for the next best things when patience isn’t available- guns and knives. Yes, some consumers showed up with their BB guns and home-made knife stick creations to nab a voucher.
The event took place in South Korea, and not so surprisingly, 20 people were hurt from the melee of insanity which descended upon a seemingly fun promotion. Business Insider stated one excited consumer was happy to show off her spear to cameras. You may not understand the language, but pictures speak a thousand words of how the event went horribly awry.
Some participating fans were more docile and brought fishing nets, leaving the hunting and archaic gear at home. While fun and goodwill should have been the point, only injury resulted. The video depicts background noises of happy BB gun owners. The crowd dispersed once people started screaming of being crushed by others, all because of their overwhelming desire for a phone. Well, to some, the LG G2 is much more than just any phone.
CNET revealed the stellar specs of the LG G2:
G2 sport a 13-megapixel camera like its main rival, the Samsung Galaxy S4, it also runs Android 4.2.2 and has a vivid 1080p HD display. Uncommonly, and not completely comfortably, its volume rocker and power buttons are located on the phone’s back. As for internal storage capacity, LG will release 16GB and 32GB versions of the G2. Equipped with a massive 5.2-inch, 1080p IPS LCD display (with 423ppi density) that runs edge-to-edge against the bezel (thanks to dual-routing touch-screen sensor technology), the LG G2 still manages to be remarkably thin and light. Indeed, its profile measures just over 0.3 inch (8 millimeters) thick.
Additional features of the LG G2 include:
- Slide Aside- this feature allows a user to access their last three apps.
- Clip Tray-like the handy-dandy tool of Snip-It, Clip Tray allows consumers to save “chunks” of text to use for future correspondence.
- Answer Me- no more annoying rings as the phone is picked up. The ring decreases in volume and automatically answers the call when the headset detects the face.
- Guest Mode- hides important apps and software from friends, family or the kids with their own log-in drawing.
Maybe it’s understandable to a degree why excited fans decided to storm the field (and one another) for this hot device. It seems lunacy overcame common sense when people started falling underneath stampeding feet (think Wal-Mart on Black Friday but less velocity.) LG G2 suffered a moment of chagrin and promised to pay for all medical treatments for any consumers injured in the fiasco. Not surprisingly, after the giveaway melee leading to guns, knives and injuries, LG announced: “We canceled events offering free G2 smartphones that had been scheduled in major cities nationwide, including Busan, due to safety concerns.”
