Rumours are abounding, that Michael Douglas is to announce a divorce from his wife of thirteen years, Catherine Zeta-Jones.
This sad news seemed to grow more apparent when Douglas flew in on his private jet to Sardinia alone, but rarer still, his wife was absent. In fact, it seems that they have been out of the public eye as a couple, for about 4 months. There have even been reports that the couple no longer live together. Further claims have also been made that there will be a multi-million dollar settlement.
The Mirror has reported an insider’s claim that, “Michael is going to announce the split soon. Catherine is fighting to save the marriage but he’s had it.”
Douglas, 68, and Zeta-Jones, 43, have been married for thirteen years and are said to have endured one of the longest marriages currently in Hollywood, in addition to Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne and Will Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.
A spokesperson for Douglas, when pressed regarding rumours of their marriage crisis, was reported to have said, “I won’t talk about that.”
The Hollywood couple have endured many personal crises together: Catherine supported Michael, as he fought off his throat cancer and Michael returned the favor for Catherine, when she was admitted into rehab with bi-polar disorder.
A source had also mentioned the issue of the strain being not only on the couple, but also on their children, Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10:
“Divorce would be the final straw. It would be too damaging for the children and a strain on both of them emotionally and health wise.”
