DeKalb County authorities have responded to the call of a gunman at an elementary school. Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy was the victim of this shooter’s nonsense.
Inside the school shots were fired and students were evacuated from the elementary school. Police SWAT teams were in the front of the school with their guns drawn.
Melvin Johnson, DeKalb County School Board Chairman, confirmed that reports of shots being fired and has stated that no children or teachers were injured. The students hid in storage rooms until they were released to run for safety. News station’s helicopter showed students running from the school building to safety.
The shooter came inside the school making certain demands, currently; no one has said what those demands were. What has been clarified is all of the students were accounted for and that none of them were injured. Suspect’s name has not been released but he is in custody.
Television footage from local outlets confirmed that students had been evacuated from this Georgia Elementary Charter School and were sitting outside in a field Tuesday afternoon.
Parents can pick up their children at a nearby Wal-Mart. The children are loading buses and being taken there now.
