Officials say the Silver Fire that had been burning out of control in California is 95 percent contained. The fire has destroyed 48 structures in Riverside County California and damaged eight more since it began last Wednesday, covering over 20,000 acres. 12 people have been injured in the blaze with no casualties. The cause has not been determined.
The Silver Fire is in the same area as the Esperanza Fire. In October of 2006 the entire crew of Engine 57 was lost to the Esperanza fire. In that fire Raymond Lee Oyler was convicted of starting the fire and murdering the firefighters. He has been sentenced to death.
During a break, firefighters from the Sequoia National Forest visited a Memorial to those lost at Esperanza.
