Washington has decided to close an unknown number of Embassies due to security risks.
Marie Harf, spokesperson for the State Department referred to the move as precautionary. Closings will be this Sunday, August 4th. After Sunday there will be a review with the possibility Embassies being closed more days. Government offices are usually closed on Sundays but that is the start of the work week in Muslim countries.
Harf said the move was “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations.” No specific threat has been mentioned in the closings.
Last year ambassador Christopher Stephens was killed last year in a terrorist attack in Benghazi, heightening the state Departments level of security around the world.
