The State Department will close a number of embassies on Sunday because of security concerns. The State department did not specify what embassies would be affected on Sunday.
The closures are precautionary with no threats acknowledged by the State Department.
“The Department of State has instructed certain US embassies and consulates to remain closed or to suspend operations on Sunday, August 4,” said State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf.
The closings come “out of an abundance of caution and care for our employees and others who may be visiting our installations,” she said.
The embassies affected will be closed on Sunday and there is no guarantee that they will re-open on Monday. An assessment will be done to determine whether to reopen, according to Harf.
“It is possible we may have additional days of closing as well,” she said.
Hart declined to give any specific information regarding where the possible security concern was identified.
