12 People Confirmed Dead in Washington Navy Yard Shooting At least 12 people are dead as a result of the Washington Navy Yard incident this morning when a gunman opened fire as workers were coming in to start their day.

Cathy Lanier, Washington Police Chief, said one gunman is dead and they are on the lookout for possibly two other gunmen. They are wearing military type uniforms. She is not sure if they were actually involved in the shooting but for cautionary measures need to be located. One is white man between 40 and 50 years of age in a tan navy uniform and beret. The other is a black man around the same age wearing an olive colored uniform.

There is a possibility that the number of victims may increase because of the chaos they are experiencing.

The gunman, as described by witnesses, opened fire from the fourth floor and began aiming down on those that were in the first floor in the cafeteria. Others saw a gunman shooting in the hallway of the third floor. As people started running from the building all schools in the area were locked down. A helicopter circled the area and security at the Capitol heightened.

There were about 3,000 people working in the building where the shooter began firing.

Lanier said the first call came into the office at 8:15 this morning. SWAT crews and law enforcement from multiple areas responded.

FAA had all outgoing flights at Reagan National Airport on hold for short period Monday morning. Dulles Airport operated as normal.

President Obama stopped to offer condolences to the victims and their families. He said that they will do everything in their power to make sure that the guilty coward responsible for this senseless tragedy is held accountable.

Currently many are injured and at least 12 are confirmed dead. The incident has been contained to the Navy Yard.
