An investigation has just been opened to see if an elite trained U.S. Capitol Police team, which got to the Navy Yard in Washington D.C. very quickly after the first gunshots were fired were instructed by one of their commanding officers to stand down.
It is believe that a Capitol Police anonymous spokesperson has said “lives may have been saved” if this police unit had been able to intercede.
The alleged killer, Alex Alexis murdered 12 individuals at the Navy yard before being killed himself. The questions coming out are whether the special team could have halted the killings sooner.
The Washington police force, known at the Metropolitan Police Department denies any of the above stated claims. One MPD officer was hurt by the alleged shooter.
An in-house investigation has set up a team to review the facts as they happened on Monday. The results of these findings are due in by the 21st of October.
