Last year, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez made what was easily the most embarrassing play of the 2012 National Football League season with the now infamous butt fumble. It is hard to imagine a more embarrassing play happening in under a year’s time, yet Jonathan Villar gave his best effort to unseat the butt fumble with his diving slide into second that has became known as the butt slide.
The play occurred Tuesday night when the Houston Astros were playing host to the Cincinnati Reds. In the first inning, second baseman Jonathan Villar lined a single into the outfield. Rather than taking the base, he attempted to stretch the play into a double.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips took the throw in from left field, and as a result had his back to Villar as the baserunner dove towards the bag. The result was hilarious to say the least, as Villar wound up taking a big ol’ butt to the face. He was out on the play.
