Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the newest top hottie in Hollywood. With the release of his directorial debut, Don Jon, which he wrote and stars in, it is easy to see this actor is going places. Last week the star appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where he competed in a lip synching battle with host Jimmy Fallon and guest Stephen Merchant. His extremely enthusiastic portrayal of the songs Tiny Dancer and Superbass paired with his expert dance moves earned him fervent applause from the audience. As incredibly talented as this young Hollywood actor is, there is little doubt that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s star is going to continue rising.
Gordon-Levitt’s career began as a child actor in made-for-television films and really took off when he landed the role of Tommy Solomon on the hit television show Third Rock from the Sun, where he played an awkward alien trapped in an awkward teenager’s body. Today, there is nothing awkward about this sexy rising star whose most recent Hollywood hits include co-starring with Zooey Deschanel in (500) Days of Summer and a major role alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the blockbuster hit Inception. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can’t be stopped.
Don Jon, which premiered Friday, is Gordon-Levitt’s first time directing a full-length feature film. It has received very positive reviews, gaining an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a site which aggregates movie reviews from critics and certifies a movie “fresh” or “rotten” depending on its overall score. The movie, about a man addicted to pornography, features co-stars Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore. The chemistry between the actors crackles onscreen and the story is a poignant look into our cultural perceptions of the opposite sex and what it really means to be in love.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s talent sparks both on-screen and off-screen. One of his first directorial projects, a short film adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s short story Sparks, was selected for the Sundance Film Festival back in 2009. He is also a very talented dancer and singer. He utilized these skills to promote (500) Days of Summer in an adorable collaboration with Deschanel in a music video titled “The Bank Heist” featuring her song “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” by Deschanel’s folk group She and Him.
This star’s next project is going to be just as exciting as his most recent hits. A highly anticipated sequel to the film Sin City is set to release in 2014. Gordon-Levitt plays a character named Johnny, a gambler settling a score with a terrible enemy. The film is titled Sin City, A Dame to Kill For and will be set up much as the first film was, in a series of interconnected vignettes. Gordon-Levitt’s is titled “The Long Bad Night” and bad things are expected to go down for his character.
Whether he is playing a hero in Dark Knight Rises or a fatally flawed romantic, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has proven himself to be a versatile and gifted actor. His looks certainly do not hurt him either. Expect to continue seeing this rising star around Hollywood, because Joseph Gordon-Levitt is here to stay.
