What a year it’s been for Kate Upton! She’s been named the 2013 Model of the Year, and she’s featured on the cover of Vanity Fair in a pose that Marilyn Monroe would have been proud of, decked out in a golden-colored low-cut dress with a slit in it that’s thigh-high, and wearing fashionable pointy-toed white shoes with stiletto heels.
Kate has also added acting to her resume. She will be in the flick called The Other Woman, due out in movie theaters April 2014. Her co-stars include Leslie Mann and Cameron Diaz.
Besides appearing on the October cover of Vanity Fair, which will be out in stores on September 5, Kate is interviewed in it and is depicted relaxing upon a crescent moon inside the pages in a recreation of the cover of the first issue of the magazine. The cover photo was taken by the famous Rolling Stones magazine photographer, Annie Leibovitz,
Upton, 21, will receive her 2013 Model of the Year Award on Wednesday night. It will be presented to her during the 10th. Annual Style Awards. Her career’s high points will be celebrated during the awards show.
Examples will include the year 2011, when Kate was named Sports Illustrated‘s Rookie of the Year, to appearing on the covers of both the Brazilian and American Vogue, and also this year’s cover of Vanity Fair. Nicole Richie will be the host of the awards show.
Sophia Neophitou was hesitant to book Upton as a model for Victoria’s Secret. The New York Times quoted Neophitou as saying about Upton that she was “too obvious. She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and the kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”
Also, Kate tells Vanity Fair that the beginning of her career was a bit rocky. According to Upton:
…one agency told me, ‘You’re too American, and everybody knows American women are lazy.’ I was so offended!”
Upton, one of today’s most successful models, proved that agency wrong with her busy schedule of photo shoots, interviews, and now, being on the set of movies.Kate’s appearance on Vanity Fair’s cover is to help the magazine celebrate its 100th year in print.
Celebrities such Bill Maher and Lorne Michaels have written essays for the issue. Also, at Vanity Fair’s website, there are all sorts of special additions to help celebrate the occasion. There are short films by people like Judd Apatow, and there’s going to be a coffee-table sized book available in stores in October, titled “Vanity Fair: 100 Years.”
Kate Upton is at the top of her career and popularity, and it looks as if she’ll be there for a long time to come. Will she be one day as famous as Marilyn Monroe, who she pays homage to on the cover of Vanity Fair? What are your opinions?
