Las Vegas: Dispute in Southwest Valley Results in HomicideOn September 12, 2013 at approximately 9:20 p.m. LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located in the 9000 block of West Warm Springs Road to investigate reports of gunfire. Arriving officers discovered a male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside of an apartment at that location.

Officers learned that prior to their arrival two females were seen walking away from the apartment, entering a white Volkswagen Las Vegas: Dispute in Southwest Valley Results in HomicidePassat, and leaving the area. Witnesses also stated one of the females was carrying what appeared to be a shotgun.

The preliminary investigation by Homicide Detectives determined the victim and a female roommate had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day. Following the altercation the victim had entered his bedroom and closed the door while speaking on the telephone to another individual. During that time the roommate, later identified as Mary Pitrello, 26 years of age of Las Vegas, recovered a shotgun from her bedroom and fired one round through the victims closed bedroom door, striking and killing him. Pitrello and a second female who was visiting her then fled the area in the victims vehicle.

As Homicide Detectives were beginning their investigation into this incident the LVMPD Dispatch Center received additional information indicating Pitrello and the second female were currently in a business in the 2000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard.
Responding officers located both individuals along with the vehicle, which contained the shotgun.
