Sony and Taco Bell are teaming up to give away the most awaited console, the PS4. The slogan, Play the Future First is marketed on the free PS4s promotion which will run in Taco Bells located in the U.S. starting on Sept. 26, 2013 through Nov. 10, 2013.
However, because of the debacle from last year, the partnership between Sony and Taco Bell did leave a bad taste in our mouths. Last year’s promotion ran for Taco Bell customers to win a PlayStation Vita. The issues came when “technical issues” were reported that involved hackers who had “won” PlayStation Vitas without buying into the $5 Buck Box deal. Added to the nightmare, customers who won fair and square, did not receive their PlayStation Vita.
The promotion for the highly anticipated PS4 will run nationwide giving gamers a chance to get a PS4 console before they hit shelves on Nov. 15. Taco Bell stores will offer the Taco Bell $5 Buck Box or Big Box deal, with the prize package of one PS4 console, one videogame, and a year subscription to PS Plus.
What measures will this campaign take to prevent last year’s nightmare? This year’s contest entries will be scrutinized by way of text message – not through the web portal, which became a hacker’s haven as one hacker publicly bragged about receiving a free PlayStation Vita by hacking into the web portal by generating random codes.
Perhaps GTA V can do a parody of Taco Bell drive-through carjackings for the PS4. Rockstar has something here.
