The 39th season of NBC’s Saturday Night Live is starting in style. The first three episodes of SNL will be hosted by no less than Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus, and Bruce Willis respectively. The first host will be SNL alumnus Tina Fey when the show premieres on Sept. 28.
NBC announced their guest host names for the first, second, and third shows of their new fall season. The season’s opening show will feature Tina Fey, who has become one of the few SNL alumni who have gone on to become a huge success after leaving the show. She has been one busy lady since leaving the show in at the end of 2006. Her musical guest will be Arcade Fire on the show.
The next host announced for week two of the new season is the 20 year-old pop star who caused so much controversy over her MTV VMA live performance, Miley Cyrus. Miley will be pulling double duty as host and musical guest on the second show of the season. No doubt, the We Can’t Stop singer will be given lots of “controversial” material for her hosting spot.
The third show will have another “alumnus” Bruce Willis. This will be his second time hosting the show. With the most recent developments in Bruce’s career being his getting “fired” from Expendables 3 there will be no shortage of material for his turn to host. The musical guest will be the lovely Katy Perry who will no doubt be performing something from her Prism album.
The announcement of Bruce Willis, Miley Cyrus and Tina Fey as the first three SNL hosts for the new season has got fans excited to see what they will bring to the guest-hosting table. Miley will be the only “newbie” as Willis is a “veteran” and Tina has started on the show.
The decision to have Tina Fey host the first show of the season brings a feel of the “old” and the new. A group of new faces have been added to the regular cast of SNL and having an old hand at the till to keep things running smoothly was a good move. Letting the “new kids” see how it used to be done.
Tina was on SNL from 1997 to 2006. She left in 2006 to create, write, and star in 30 Rock for the next seven years. The 43 year-old actress and writer joins the ranks of later SNL regulars who have gone on to become household names. John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd all come from the earlier days of Saturday Night Live.
The Saturday Night Live show has come a long way since its beginning in 1975. In those days the cast were known as the The Not Ready For Prime-Time Players. Tina Fey’s return as the first guest host of the new season, shows her gratitude to SNL for giving her a chance back when Lorne Michaels ran the comedy program.
She said that only Michaels put her on television and that no one else “would have done that.” She maintains that he was the creator who made a show that influenced culture for over 35 years. Tina will probably come back every time the show asks, despite the fact that Michaels is no longer part of SNL.
The season premiere of SNL will be on September 28 and the first three hosts will be Tina Fey, Miley Cyrus and Bruce Willis. You can see Tina Fey on September 28; Miley Cyrus on October 5 and Bruce Willis on October 12.
