Charlie Hunnam, who was set to play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, has apparently developed 50 Shades of Cold Feet, as he has dropped out of playing the role.
Previously, Universal Pictures had said in a statement that the Sons of Anarchy star, Hunnam, 33, had opted out of playing Christian Grey because of his busy “TV schedule.” Because of it, the statement said, Hunnam didn’t have sufficient time “to prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
But, that is not really the truth of the matter.
Two sources have told The Hollywood Reporter that the actual truth of why Hunnam decided not to play Christian Grey is that he got “cold feet.” His TV schedule had nothing to do with why he is no longer going to be in the trilogy, at all, according to the sources.
Universal Pictures is now searching for an actor to take Hunnam’s place in the film. Whoever is chosen will act opposite the beautiful actress, Dakota Johnson, who was chosen to play Anastasia Steele in the erotic trilogy of movies that are based on the books of E.L. James. James announced that Johnson was signed to play Steele on September 2.
James also tweeted that “Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey,” but that, of course, is no longer the case.
Perhaps it’s for the best that Charlie Hunnam will not be playing Christian Grey, as fans of 50 Shades of Grey were not at all fond of the choice in the first place. Fans of the trilogy were hoping that some other actor, like Ryan Gosling or James Pattinson, would be chosen for the decidedly kinky role of Christian Grey.
There was even a petition created by some of the trilogy’s most ardent fans in an attempt to have both Johnson and Hunnam replaced wiht other actors. The petition managed to get the signatures of more than 80,000 disgruntled fans.
Still, that did not seem to deter Charlie Hunnam, who seemed to be glad that he was selected to play the role, and ready to start filming 50 Shades of Grey.
He said that when he began to start “reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it.”
The British-born star also appeared to like the “tangible chemistry” that was developing between himself and Dakota.
At the time it was reported that both Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam would be in the film, which will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Nowhere Boy director), a release date of August 2014 had been scheduled. The date might have to be pushed back unless a new Christian Grey can be found and signed soon.
Who will ultimately be chosen and signed to play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey now that Charlie Hunnam has gotten 50 Shades of Cold Feet and has dropped out of appearing in the trilogy? Who do you think would be the best choice? Please leave your comments below!
