Every 34 seconds, someone suffers from a heart attack and it is not gender specific. It happens to both men and women alike. For women, though, most think that the signs are confusing and so they don’t seek help quick enough. The signs could be as simple as having a hard time breathing as if you have just ran a grueling marathon, but haven’t moved an inch from where you are sitting.

Many women who experience heart attacks describe it as an intense feeling of pressure in the upper back. The feeling is as if a rope is being tied tightly around the circumference of your upper body frame. Other symptoms include being dizzy and lightheaded or just fainting without warning.

• Pain in the arm, neck, stomach or jaw
• Becoming suddenly nauseous
• Vomiting and cold sweat
• Feeling as though you have the flu
• Feelings of fatigue and weakness
• Heart palpitations

Even when the warnings of a heart attack may seem simple, it can be extremely deadly. By the time a woman experiences these symptoms, it means that a portion of her heart is dying. The heart artery is typically blocked with plaque, which lessens the transporting of oxygen and blood to other sections of the heart. Blood clot can also form around the artery if a small amount of plaque breaks off. Either way, once oxygen and blood is not able to reach the heart muscles, they begin to die and this will result in a heart attack.

A lifestyle change
Obesity and high cholesterol levels are some of the reasons for heart attack in women. Other factors of heart attack faced by women over the age of 50 are lack of physical exercise, smoking, genetics, diabetes, and hypertension. Each woman should discuss with her doctor what her risk factors are for heart disease. In the meantime, you should make a lifestyle change for a healthier heart. The first step to take is to begin a normal exercise regimen and eat food rich in nutrients.

Live a life free of stress to avoid a heart attack. If this seems difficult for you, then begin by exercising two to three times each week or little by little change your diet in order to reduce the risk of getting a heart attack.F

 

Integrate more physical activities into your daily routine, maintain a low fat diet, get professional help to kick the habit of smoking and search for options to reduce your stress level.
