Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial: Verdict Reached

The jury in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial has informed the judge that they have reached a verdict, CNN.com reports.  Jackson’s mother Katherine Jackson was named guardian of his three children after his death in 2009.  She brought a wrongful death suit against AEG Live, charging their hiring of Dr. Conrad Murray contributed to Jackson’s untimely death.

Jackson died of an overdose of propofol, a surgical anesthetic Murray was administering to Jackson to treat insomnia so he would be rested for rehearsals. Jackson was just days from launching his This is It comeback tour, promoted by AEG Live. Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the matter, and sentenced to two years in prison. He is scheduled to be released next month.

The suit alleges AEG Live contracted Murray so they could control him.  AEG Live attorney’s counter-charged that Jackson chose Murray himself and was under the doctor’s care for three years.

The verdict is scheduled to be read at 6:30 pm ET, and jurors will decide if AEG is in fact responsible for Jackson’s death.
