Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr have officially announced their separation after months of speculation via Bloom’s press agent, Robin Baum, who indicated that the couple had been amicably separated for the past six months.
“After six years together, they have recently decided to formalize their separation. Despite this being the end of their marriage, they love, support and respect each other as both parents of their son and as family,” the statement read.
Bloom, 36, shot to fame by playing Legolas Greenleaf-Sindarin Elf of the Woodland Realm in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and extended his fame by appearing as Will Turner in three of The Pirates of the Caribbean films. Kerr, 30, is a Victoria’s Secret model who is reportedly the second highest paid cat walker in the world earning roughly $7 million dollars this past year. It is not known if the pair has a pre-nuptial agreement.
The couple’s relationship began in 2007 when Kerr refused to give Bloom her phone number because she was dating someone else. He got her number from her agent and called her anyway. The other man fell away and the couple was wed in a secret ceremony in July of 2010 after a one month engagement. Their only son, Flynn, was born on Jan. 6, 2011.
Rumors began to swirl around the marriage last November when Kerr was photographed with Leonardo DiCaprio at various occasions and events around New York City. Friends were trotted out to deny the rumors and Bloom’s mother even gave a statement a few weeks later in December of 2012 to the Daily Mail, stating that “everything was fine” despite the rumors.
And all seemed fine. Bloom and Kerr were spotted on Oct. 7th walking with their son and family dog around New York City They were photographed together again a few weeks ago looking very happy and very married on the opening night of Bloom Broadway debut as Romeo in a new production of Romeo and Juliet on Sept. 19th.
In an odd counterpoint to the separation announcement, Kerr posted an Instagram on her account today blowing the camera a kiss and is now trending across her native land of Australia. Not to be outdone, Bloom went on “Live with Kelly and Michael” today to talk about his performance in Romeo and Juliet and how much he enjoys kissing his co-star, Condola Rashād (daughter of actress, Phylicia Rashād).
This has been a year of change and upheaval for Kerr with the divorce announcement topping of a series of announced changes in the model’s life. In July of 2012, she jumped from her long relationship with Chic Models and signed with IMG Models. This coming December will be the first time she has not appeared in the annual Victoria Secret fashion show which airs on CBS. Kerr states that she was invited to participate but has to be in Asia at that time. Earlier this year, her mother withdrew as General Manager and CEO of Kora Organics, Kerr’s skin care line. It now looks as though divorce from Bloom will be another major change added to her list.
