The motive for the murder of a Louisiana pastor who was allegedly killed by a former deacon of his church is being closed in on, by the sheriff investigating the case, and that is the slain pastor was an alleged rapist.
Sheriff Tony Mancuso stated on Tuesday that the alleged gunman’s wife went to police and filed a rape complaint against the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center pastor Ronald Harris on Sept. 25. This was 48 hours before the pastor was shot.
In her report, the woman put down that Harris raped her several months ago, explained Mancuso.
The sheriff would not release the paper complaint because it is now considered part of the murder case against former church member Woodrow Karey. Mancuso has not yet figured out whether a rape really happened, or if there was a consensual sexual relationship between the two individuals.
Onlookers told authorities that Karey came into the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center around 8:15 p.m. on Friday evening and allegedly shot Harris twice. Deputies arrested Karey after he rang 911 himself and explained what he had done to the dispatcher.
A spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office explained that Karey had no known criminal history or any mental problems which had been reported. She said he called the police to give himself up just a few minutes after he shot the pastor and he explained to responding deputies where they could find a .22-caliber pistol and a shotgun that he had hidden in some woods that were located nearby. After that he was charged with second-degree murder and taken in.
Karey said to the police a week before the shooting that he had discovered text messages exchanged from his spouse to Harris. He thought they were having a sexual relationship so he accused his wife. After the confrontation, Karey’s spouse went and filed the police report that said in it that the pastor had raped her, Sheriff Mancuso explained. Again police have not yet investigated the rape charges by Karey’s wife.
They state they have not had any opportunity as of yet, and that they want to get their facts straight before they go to the wife.
Ronald Harris’ daughter, Talisha Harris, was in the church and saw her father shot down. She explained that Karey came into the church as she was heading 65 people while they were singing.
The alleged killer shot his gun as soon as he was inside, Ms. Harris said. When he fired a second blast, that one hit her father in his back.
Next, Karey advanced toward Harris and shot again at close range. After this, he ran out of the church, leaving the people inside in terror. They were yelling, running around and hiding under pews.
After all the latest revelations, the Harris family could not immediately be gotten hold of for comment about the rape report. Numerous phone calls that were made to Pastor Harris’ house were not answered after the sheriff disclosed the complaint about the slain pastor possibly being a rapist of the alleged killer’s wife.
