JEFFERSON COUNTY, TN- A collision involving a bus, a tractor trailer, and a passenger vehicle in Jefferson County Tennessee, has left at least six people dead, Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred around 2 PM on the westbound side of I-40 near mile marker 422. All lanes are shut down as officials, from surrounding counties, hurry to the scene. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is estimating interstate closure for the next seven hours.
A spokesperson from the Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency relayed the Tennessee Highway Patrol has reported six fatalities. Medical emergency helicopters from surrounding cities have reportedly transported at least 13 patients to area hospitals.
TDOT is advising motorists heading eastbound on I-40 to take Interstate 81 North to Interstate 26 East in North Carolina. They are also asking Westbound I-40 drivers to get off at mile marker 424 taking State Route 113 South to US 25/70 West to State Route 92 North back to I-40 East.
East Tennessee Children’s Hospital says they have been asked to prepare to receive patients.
