Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Globes for the next two years because they get viewers like nobody else. “Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season. We’re elated they wanted to host together again” NBC’s President of Alternative and Late Night programming, Paul Telegdy said in today’s press release. It’s for real; for the next two years the Golden Globes Awards will be hosted by the witty, beautiful and funny stars, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Fey, 43, was a cast member on SNL from 1997 for nine years and then moved on to the successful comedy, 30 Rock. Poehler, 42 joined the SNL cast in 2001 and continued until 2009. Both Fey and Poehler received awards for their work on the show. In 2009 Poehler moved to NBC’s sitcom Parks and Recreation and nominations, awards and fame have followed them both.
Saturday Night Live has always been the birth ground of American comedians and it’s not surprising that the witty talents of these two ladies has been transplanted from this late night TV show and rebirthed as the fresh face of the 2014 and 2015 Golden Globe awards.
These charismatic hosts were already successful with the 70th Golden Globes. This year’s ratings were the highest numbers for nine years among viewers age 18-49. Fey and Poehler increased the numbers by 17% from the show of the year before. Nearly 20 million viewed the awards ceremony which was broadcast live throughout the US. There was no time lapse delay which kept the show’s excitement and the fans of this talented comedy team hooked.
The 2013 Golden Globes were a success. Witty and original, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were great hosts of the Globes and they got the viewers. Keeping the audience interested is no easy feat. Many superstars from the television and film world have failed in their efforts at awards shows. Fey gave a nod to the difficult task of hosting an awards show when she said at the Globes this year. “Anne Hathaway, you gave a stunning performance in Les Miserables. I have not seen someone so totally alone and abandoned like that since you were on stage with James Franco at the Oscars!”
It was inevitable that the invitation to revisit the Golden Globes in 2014 and 2015 as presenters would be considered. As she elegantly walked the red carpet at this year’s event, Tina Fey told Ryan Seacrest that NBC had invited them back for the following two years. She explained that she had to discuss the opportunity with Amy Poehler before a decision could be made. Fey and Poehler have been long time friends and co presented the Weekend Update section on SNL in 2004.
With perfect comedic skills, the girlfriends have received many compliments on their enthusiastic work in comedy. Previously, Amy Poehler who has two sons but separated from her husband, Will Arnett in 2012, said, “Taking risks and making choices is what makes life so exciting.” Tina Fey has been quoted with similar wisdom, saying “Say yes, and you’ll figure it out afterward”. Dick Clark productions, the production company for the Golden Globes, were quick to respond to the news. Their CFO, Allen Shapiro, said, “Tina and Amy have a truly unique chemistry making them one of the most talented and captivating pairings of all-time. We are thrilled to have them back in 2014 and 2015.” Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Globes because they are great comedians and because they get the viewers.
