CCSU on Emergency Lockdown

Update:  The lockdown was lifted at 3:15 p.m.   New Britain, CT Mayor Tim O’Brien says that one suspect is in custody.

Several students reported seeing a man in camouflage shirt and orange pants being led away by police at approximately 2:30 p.m.

CCSU campus in New Britain, CT was placed on lockdown shortly after noon on Monday.  Tweets coming in read that all CCSU campus was ordered to seek shelter and stay inside.  Another tweet said to lock all doors and close all windows.  Adding that this was not a drill and further communication would be forthcoming.

A CCSU spokeswoman said that there was no shooting but would not elaborate any further.  Officials in New Britain said that there were ports of a man with a gun and knife on campus.  The spokeswoman said that Connecticut State Police were called to the scene at 12:30 p.m. and SWAT teams have been sent to the campus.  Lt. J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police said that he is unaware of the nature of the emergency and is unsure when the campus police are focusing their efforts.

Students are reporting on Facebook and Twitter that an unidentified man wearing a mask and holding a gun was on campus.

There are reports of police officers surrounding F. Don James Hall, a residence hall on the campus.

Local schools, HALS Academy and Holmes Elementary were also placed on a “modified lockdown” morning afternoon.

It remains unclear is there was anyone injured.
