Jean-Claude Van Damme features in the latest of those crazy, epic Volvo FM video adverts, performing an incredibly daring split between two reversing Volvo trucks and its going viral on YouTube right now. The video of this latest stunt was uploaded to YouTube on November 13 and has already had almost 10 million views.
According to Volvo, this live test, starring “The Muscles from Brussels,” is the first of its kind and was done to demonstrate the “precision and directional stability of Volvo Dynamic Steering.”
Right at the start of the video (which is included at the end of this article), we see that famous 53-year-old Belgian tough guy Van Damme, eyes closed, arms crossed, in the zone and looking very serious.
His eyes then pop open and Van Damme then tells us in no uncertain terms, “I’ve had my ups and downs. My fair share of bumpy roads and heavy winds.”
“That’s what made me what I am today. Now I stand here before you. What you see is a body crafted to perfection,” he adds.
And then, zoom! Back goes the camera quickly to reveal that Van Damme is actually balancing on the rear-view mirrors of not one, but two Volvo FM trucks, which are moving backwards, simultaneously, side-by-side.
Then the viral video shows us Jean-Claude Van Damme, his body eminently crafted to perfection indeed, performing his absolutely epic split.
He then explains that he has a “a pair of legs engineered to defy the laws of physics, and a mindset to master the most epic of splits.”
Then, to the soothing music of Enya’s Only Time, the camera zooms out completely showing Jean-Claude Van Damme, in full epic split mode hanging between both the moving trucks – an absolutely amazing display of balance and ability.
Some people who viewed the video thought that it looked a bit too good to be true, but in a statement released Thursday by Van Damme and Volvo, they confirmed that the stunt was 100 percent real. Van Damme said that he found the ad “quite unusual” and that this is “the first time we’ll ever see anything like it in a movie or commercial.”
This is the latest in a series of live tests run by Volvo Trucks, testing each aspect of the trucks.
Just last month a video was made showing a live bull run with a great big red Volvo truck winding through the streets of a Spanish city. This test was to display the utter maneuverability of the trucks (well worth the view on YouTube).
Another live test showed the power and control of the Volvo FM’s steering by getting Charlie the hamster to do all the work, with a human using a carrot for direction, as the truck goes from the bottom up to the very top of a steep quarry.
The latest viral video has been the most popular so far and was filmed at sunrise in Spain starring, of course, Jean-Claude Van Damme, driving in epic split mode along an out-of-use landing field.
The director was Andreas Nilsson and apparently only took one take to get it right.
