This fall season seems to be a ripe time for changing hairstyles. We had Jennifer Aniston’s spontaneous haircut, and today Jennifer Lawrence decided to chop hers all off. Her new pixie ‘do is even more dramatic than Aniston’s though she has chosen to keep her bangs.
Lawrence is currently doing a run of promotions for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. So what possessed her to chop off her locks? She offered no explanation, only posting a pic of her dramatic new style on her Facebook page: “Headed up north for #GLOBALFANDAY with The Hunger Games Catching Fire cast. Follow this page all day for updates!” Subsequent Facebook posts showed her using Google Glass and posing for photos with Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer.
Lawrence’s pixie haircut is garnering plenty of comparisons to Kate Gosselin’s hair. Their short haircuts are similar but it’s doubtful Lawrence aimed to imitate anyone. Seeing as how she possesses an independent streak, she probably went the Jennifer Aniston route and spontaneously did the chop chop. I hope she donated her cut hair to Locks of Love.
This is not to go all scientific on you, dear readers, but why do women go for such drastic hairstyles? Such a haircut could signify a sea change in one’s life. According to hairfinder.com, there are several possible reasons, but which among them would account for Lawrence’s haircut? Could it be as simple as wanting to have a wash-and-wear style or wanting to demonstrate more of her independence? Could it be a mild act of rebellion? Research has shown that long hair on women is more attractive to men but this doesn’t seem to be a concern for Lawrence. Rather, considering her young age, she could be trying on different looks to see which suits her in the moment. Judging from the upcoming releases of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past, not to mention currently filming the third and last installment of The Hunger Games saga, Lawrence could simply be yearning to keep it simple. Getting a new hairstyle can be dramatic yet it’s a move we can always control.
Plus, Lawrence can always wear a wig while filming The Hunger Games. Something tells me she would definitely have fun with it.
Predictably, Twitter had plenty to say about Lawrence’s bold haircut
Michael Stonecutter: Jennifer Lawrence’s new haircut is like adding chocolate milk to cocoa pebbles. You think its ruined but really its 1 billion times better.
Cecily Lightwood: Jennifer Lawrence is the biggest inspiration I’ve ever known and I’m not joking at all <3
