Jesse Eisenberg never stops extending his acting biceps. He stretches it as far as playing an arrogant, devil-may-care doppelganger in Richard Ayoade’s The Double, his recent movie to be released in 2014. He tries tackling controversial topics like eco-terrorism in Night Moves, where he stars alongside Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard as a radical environmentalist who plans on blowing up a hydroelectric dam.
Eisenberg pursues his eco-aware career in his guest star spot on ABC’s sitcom, Modern Family. The upcoming episode will include cameos from Eisenberg as well as 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski and The Big C, The Good Wife star John Benjamin Hickey. The upcoming episode titled “Under Pressure,” will start shooting on November 4th and is expected to air early next year.
Modern Family has been garnering awards ever since it first aired on September 2009. The sitcom is presented in mockumentary style where often the actors will speak directly to the camera. It was labeled an Emmy darling for winning the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series four years in a row, making it the only series to gain such an honor after The Dick Van Dyke Show. The hit TV show has also claimed the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, and various Writers Guild of America Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards and GLAAD Media Awards. Even First Lady Michelle Obama has cited Modern Family as her favorite TV show.
The series has had its share of A-list guest stars with names such as Edward Norton, Elizabeth Banks, James Marsden, Matt Dillon, Leslie Mann and Matthew Broderick appearing on one or more episodes of the 20th Century Fox TV series.
In “Under Pressure,” the 11th episode of Modern Family’s fifth season, Eisenberg is set to play Asher, an eco-obsessed neighbor of Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet).
Krakowski, who has had her share of mean-spirited characters will play –no surprise- Dr. Donna a mean-spirited mother of a classmate of Manny (Rico Rodriguez) who butts heads with our beloved and feisty Gloria (Sofia Vergara). As for Hickey, he will assume the role of a therapist to one of the Dunphys.
One can see Eisenberg being the eco-nut who raises hell on everything Mitchell and Cam do. This is not Eisenberg’s first TV appearance. In 1999 he made his screen debut with Get Real, FOX network’s short-lived comedy-drama. He starred in it alongside his to-be Rio co-star, Anne Hathaway as onscreen siblings. He also gave his voice in an un-credited cameo for the HBO political drama The Newsroom. Modern Family’s guest stint will be Eisenberg’s most important TV spot to-date.
Eisenberg has yet a busy schedule to fill. Rio 2 is getting a release date in 2014 and he has yet to see when the sequel to his caper thriller Now You See Me will start shooting. His two upcoming movies, Night Moves and The Double are to gain wideworld and U.S. release in 2014. It looks like 2014 is going to be one hectic year for Eisenberg, not to mention that he must have a lot more “up his sleeve.”
Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on ABC.
