In the past November meant food, it was known for getting families together and enjoying some quality turkey, November is still known for that but now the dinner table may have a few extra mustaches. Movember marks a change in men’s health.
“No Shave November” has been popular for a few years but it never had such meaning before. In the past it was more about jokes, being lazy and keeping your face warm in the winter. Now mustache November AKA Movember has taken over, for a good cause.
A very pressing matter that has played a huge role in the lives of many is breast cancer. Which is why breast cancer awareness is so important. People have really shown that they can support each other, breast cancer awareness is advertised and promoted by pink ribbons. These are well known ribbons now, people know what a pink ribbon signifies. So what does a mustache during Movember signify?
Stepping away from the less serious side of no shave November you have Movemeber, an icon for prostate and testicular cancer awareness. Ladies have their pink for awareness so it is only fitting that gentleman have their mustaches. However, this doesn’t mean that only a select group can join the fight, any and all who wish to don a mustache in Movember are welcome to.
What if you create the most beautiful mustache that must be shared with the world? Then share it! A new website, following the campaign “Share the Mo” has been created just for the occasion but if you are more of a social media kind of person than you can hash tag to share the love of your mo.
What are the specifics of having a mo during Movember? The event is really about helping and promoting men’s health, not about criticizing. Just about all shaves and styles are accepted. What do you feel comfortable with and does that include a mustache? Hopefully, but if not simply do your best. Not everyone can grow an elegant mustache but everyone can still support in their own mustache way.
Movember has been growing in popularity and strength, just last year $21 million was raised solely in the U.S. for men’s health causes. Building awareness is one thing but donating is another entirely. If you would like to give funds you can go to the Movember website or click the first link at the bottom of the page to be taken to a U.S. donation page for Movemeber.
To get more serious for a moment I would like to send out a personal thanks to those taking the time to consider donating and growing a mo for Movember. As a people we have joined together for breast cancer awareness and accomplished great things and will continue to do so. Movember in its own way can play a big part in the lives of many and stands as an indicator that we are coming together on multiple issues for the good of everybody, it is really a testament to what we can accomplish when we work together. November means family but Movember means men’s health awareness.
