Week 12 of the NFL 2013 season comes around with a number of injuries to key players before they even hit the field.
The Dallas Cowboys will be without linebacker Sean Lee today due to a hamstring injury. Linebacker DeVonte Holloman (neck) and Justin Durant (hamstring) are also out due to their injuries for today’s game in New York against the Giants.
Wide receiver Dez Bryant is probable with back issues and DeMarcus Ware is also probable with a thigh injury. Defensive ends George Selvie (shoulder) and DeMarcus Ware (thigh) are probable as well. Selvie was in full practice, but Ware was limited. Safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) was in full practice and is listed as probable. Corner Morris Claiborne was in limited practice this week but is listed as probable. Wide receiver Miles Austin was in full practice and is listed as probable.
In New York, the Giants are listing defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder) as probable with injuries. Pierre-Paul was in limited practice this week. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (abdomen) was limited in practice and listed as questionable. Running back Brandon Jacobs (knee) also had limited practice and is listed as questionable. Corner Terrell Thomas (knee) was in limited practice and the Giants show him as probable. Corner back Corey Webster is out with a groin injury and was in limited practice this week.
For the Sunday Night game, the Denver Broncos list wide receiver Wes Welker as probable with a neck injury. Welker was cleared from a concussion he suffered in Week 11. He was in full practice all week and is expected to play tonight against the New England Patriots.
Quarterback Peyton Manning is also listed as probable with full practice due to the high ankle injury he has been dealing with for a few weeks now. Cornerback Champ Bailey (foot) and tight end Julius Thomas (knee) are both questionable. Both players were limited in practice this week. Safety Duke Ihenacho (ankle) was in full practice and is listed as probable.
In New England, quarterback Tom Brady (right shoulder) was in full practice and listed as probable. Wide receiver Danny Amendola was in limited practice with a groin injury and showing probable. Corner Aqib Talib (hip) was limited this week and the Patriots list him as questionable. Tight end Rob Gronkowski was also limited due to back problems and is listed as probable. Gronk had surgery on his back over the off-season and only recently returned to play after recovering from surgeries on his forearms. Corner Kyle Arrington was also limited with a groin injury and listed as questionable.
In earlier action, the Kansas City Chiefs are without Tamba Hali, who went out with an ankle injury. Hali had to be helped off the field and did not return to the game. Justin Houston was also injured but was able to leave the field under his own power. Together, Hali and Houston have a combined total of 20 sacks (Hali 9, Houston 1) and their presence on the defensive line is crucial to the Chiefs recent success.
Tampa Bay got another win today (v Detroit 24-21) without Darrelle Revis who went at the end of the first half with a groin injury.
In Green Bay, the Packers have felt the difference their quarterback Aaron Rodgers brings in his absence. The same applies to the Chicago Bears, with Jay Cutler still out due to his groin injury. Josh McCown is doing well, but Seneca Wallace was injured and the Packers had to go their third string Scott Tolzien last week. Today Matt Flynn came in half way through the third quarter to try to spark the Packers’ offense that was trailing 20-7.
With all these injuries and playoff rounds so near, these teams and others are feverishly working to plug the holes and make sure they have the needed depth to continue to be competitive in the final weeks of the NFL season.
