Potato Chips Covered with Chocolate Lay’s Latest Snack (Recipes & Video)

Potato Chips Covered with Chocolate

Nothing quite says the holidays like chocolate-covered potato chips. At least, that’s what Frito-Lay is counting on: consumers who are considering what salty-sweet snack chip to purchase this holiday season, choosing their latest product, Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate.

The new flavor of Lays potato chips will be available beginning next week, and they will be sold only through the holiday season. According to a Frito-Lay spokesperson, the snacks will retail for the princely sum of $3.49 per 5-ounce bag.

According to an official who works at the company, to USA Today, if the sales of Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate prove the product to be a hit, it might be sold throughout the year.

The vice president of marketing at Frito-Lay, Ram Krisnan, said that the holiday season will be a trial for the chocolate-covered potato chips. He stated that the company “wanted to test our way through this before we go big.”

Krisnan continued, saying that if the product is successful, it might lead to Frito-Lay putting other new creations on the market,  “to offer other flavor combinations that we’ve never done.”

Where will you be able to purchase Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate?

You will only be able to purchase Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate only at Target stores, at least, initially. If they become wildly successful, the Frito-Lay company will likely also sell the chips at other retail locations.

Frito-Lay is the most recent company to join the trend of creating a sweet and salty snack chip. USA Today mentions others, such as chocolate peanut butter covered Bugles and Kettle’s maple bacon-flavored potato chips.

Also, Frito-Lay might be thinking about tapping into the high-end snack market typically associated with stores such as Nunu Chocolates and Neiman Marcus; though, salty-sweet snacks are, as well, an extremely popular staple of county and state fairs.

The last two sources mentioned, below, AllysonKramer.com and AllRecipes.com, will direct you to two websites which have recipes for making your own versions of this latest offering by the Frito-Lay company.

There are also YouTube videos on how to create your own version of Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate. I have included one of them right before my list of sources below, though the one I chose has the chips just partially covered with chocolate.

The attractive-looking golden bag with its somewhat elegant font is one indication that Frito-Lay would like to target a more upper-scale, gourmet market with their latest potato chips.

Are you excited about trying out a bag of Lay’s Wavy Original Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate? They might not be the healthiest snack food for you, but they are definitely tasty! Please let me know in the comments area, and also let me know if you try out any of these recipes, or one of your own!
