Rob Kardashian, the younger brother of Kim and older brother of Kendall, is somewhat mismatched in the famous family of girls. Sandwiched in between three older sisters and two younger ones, the only brother seems to sail alone. By no choosing of his own, Rob has been thrust into a world of girly stuff and calmly plays along. The clan, famous for their reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, has been a TV staple and media draw for close to a decade. Rob has been a good sport and has tagged behind in the shadows of his mother and sister’s antics, reaping his own paltry benefits along the way. He has been overlooked like a forgotten sock monkey in a room full of plush, prized toys.
Rob Kardashian, age 26, was a welcome addition to the household of three older sisters including Kim, Kourtney and Khloe. They all were ready for the little brother who was born on St Patrick’s Day. Not given a K name by parents Kris and Robert Sr., Rob soon learned the rules of the game and played accordingly. When his mother and father divorced, Rob and his older sisters were soon bestowed four step-siblings from Bruce Jenner. Little sisters, Kendall and Kylie, would soon join the blended family later on. Still outnumbered, Rob put up with all the girl stuff well into his teens. Eventually he moved on to study business and graduate from the University of Southern California in 2009.
Kardashian has forged his own path while trailing behind the fame and the fortune of his mother and well known sisters. Beyond the drama of Kim’s romances, spectacular wedding and divorce with Kris Humphries, baby with Kanye and sexy videos, Rob remained. He has supported his sister Kourtney and the here and there relationship with Scott Disick. He has been a shoulder of comfort to Khloe as she struggles with issues in her marriage to Lamar Odom. Rob has seen his little sisters Kendall and Kylie grow up and become models. He has been there though thick and thin, regardless of the outcome, caring for his sisters every step of the way.
Kardashian is like the missing sock that has been lost in the piles of fashion, clothes and make-up. Often seen in photos biting his lip or in an uncomfortable pose, his body language seems to indicate the crave for attention. Stress could well be blamed for Kardashian’s bout with appendicitis and surgery a few years ago. His sisters were there with concern, along with the cameras to document his pain. He is covered in tattoos, yet Rob’s quiet expression yearns to be recognized above the clamor and chaos of his sisters’ next photo shoot.
He loves his family, but Kardashian has sort of gone along for the ride for a long time. He finally branched out after using food as a comfort and lost weight on his stint with Dancing With The Stars in 2011. He did well and placed second in the competition. Since then, his weight has been an ongoing issue, but at least the one thing that he can control.
Living below the limelight of his sisters, Kardashian has plowed ahead with new ventures including his designer sock line, Arthur George. He has also worked in getting more men’s clothing in the Kardashian Kollection at Sears with help from Scott Disick. Romance is a fling or two as his long-time girlfriend Adrienne Bailon drifted away, not soon to be replaced.
At the end of the day, as they so often say, Rob Kardashian is making a name for himself. Selling socks at $30 a pair, the younger brother of Kim does not need a handout. He is like a lone sock monkey in the crowd of monkey see, monkey do fanfare. Rob Kardashian will someday rise above the reality ruse and rule. He will eventually keep up with his family and do what he does best. A kin to many sisters and the keeper of secrets, Rob Kardashian will always have matching socks.
