The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an Amber Alert for 6-year-old Onnika Fisher. Onnika went missing after a supervised Division of Children and Family (DCF) visit with her mother, Charity Chatman, on Friday.
In addition to the Amber Alert an arrest warrant has been issued for Chatman who is being accused of abducting her daughter from the Jewish Family & Community Services Center, located at 6261 Dupont State Court in Jacksonville.
Chatman told Onnika’s caseworker that she had Christmas gifts for her daughter in her car. The three of them walked out towards the car and as Chatman and Onnika got close enough to the car Chatman pushed her daughter inside the vehicle and sped off.
Chatman lost custody of her daughter, according to DCF, about six weeks ago. This was around the same time she received a protection injunction by a woman in Atlantic Beach against repeat violence.
Onnika was wearing blue jeans, a pink jacket lined with white polka dots and had ponytail styled hair. Onnika weighs 53 pounds and is 3 feet 10 inches tall.
Chatman was wearing a green jacket, blue jeans and a red baseball cap at the time of the visit.
Onnika’s visit had just ended with her 39-year-old mother when Chatman quickly threw the child in the car and fled. Chatman ran off with her daughter in a 2000 dark green Buick Century, with Ohio plate no. FPA4958.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says it has received more than a dozen tips and followed up on several reported sightings, but Onnika Fisher remains missing. Officers need more tips from the community to help bring Onnika back home safe.
Chris Butler, assistant chief, says they don’t know where Onnika or her mother is but their main concern is the safety of Onnika and her return. Chatman has a history of mental illness and this is an added concern for Onnika’s safety.
An Amber Alert has been issued as of Friday approximately 8:00 p.m. and the Jacksonville police department is asking for everyone’s help in locating 6-year-old Onnika Fisher.
If you have any information on their whereabouts or if you see either of them please call 911, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (904-630-0500) or the First Coast Crime Stoppers (877-845-8477). The option to remain anonymous is available as well as cash reward of up to $3,000 if your tip leads to an arrest.
A statewide Amber Alert has been issued for Onnika Fisher; a 6-year-old girl who Jacksonville deputies say was abducted by her mother during a supervised DCF visit. A police warrant has also been issued for her Charity Chapman, the child’s mother.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has also issued an Amber Alert for Onnika Fisher on Sunday. The GBI stated in an email that investigative leads show that the 6-year-old Jacksonville girl is in Georgia.
