Demi Lovato is no longer on the search for someone with the X Factor. Simon Cowell, the creator of X Factor, has confirmed that the singer-songwriter is leaving the show at the end of the current season. Cowell will now be the only remaining judge from the show’s second season, after which L.A Reid and Britney Spears left.
Cowell always knew that he was going to lose the young Disney star. She wants to spend the whole of 2014 dedicated to music, and wants to get back to touring. The schedules were never going to work together. Lovato informed reporters that she would spend part of the year working on a new album, and hopefully release it.
Her latest album Demi has already been released, and her Neon Lights tour will support that. It starts on February 9, 2014, in Vancouver, Canada. Supporting acts include Little Mix and Cher Lloyd, who both found fame through the UK’s version of X Factor.
After the release of her book Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, Lovato has also confirmed that she wants to spend some of the year working on her memoir. This is just another conflict meaning Lovato can no longer help search for a singer with the X Factor.
Lovato did have the opportunity to leave the show before the start of the season. However, instead of supporting her album, she decided that staying on the show was the best thing for her. After spending so long on the Disney Channel, and only being in front of a certain age group, she needed a platform to branch out into the mainstream world. Adults who had never heard of her before now stop her in the grocery story to say how much they love her on X Factor.
There is currently no confirmation whether the show will even get another year. Cowell hopes for it but the ratings have been low for this season. The finale is on Thursday night at 8pm, and there is no news whether there will be auditions for young hopefuls in 2014. Cowell believes another judging panel mix-up is needed and he may be stepping down.
Lovato was asked about what she would miss about the show. Apart from being on the TV screens of the whole of America every week, she had stated that she will miss the judging panel. She is definitely going to miss fellow judges Paulina Rubio and Kelly Rowland. Rowland came to the US judging panel after spending on season on the UK X Factor judging panel.
While she will miss her fellow judges, the 21-year-old cannot forget her roots. Singing and performing has always been something that she enjoyed. She will not be the first X Factor judge to return to music after leaving. Spears also returned to the stage after reigniting her career after the second season of the show.
Thursday’s final will be the last chance for fans to see the Disney star on the show. Lovato will no longer help search for someone with the X Factor, but will still be performing with the start of her Neon Lights tour in 2014.
