Duck Dynasty Responds: No Phil, No Show

Duck Dynasty

In an inspiring display of family loyalty and concrete faith, the Duck Dynasty clan has responded to the recent suspension of their patriarch with what amounts to, “No Phil, no show.” The duck hunting gang of countryside millionaires have decided to cast their vote with Phil in response to the actions of A&E to suspend the family’s head man.

The entire affair began with comments made by Phil in an interview with GQ. In the interview, Phil was asked about his views regarding sin. Phil, true to his Bible thumping ways, paraphrased the scriptures, including some of the “Good book’s” harsher writings concerning homosexuality. The Duck Dynasty star did however go on to use more colorful and medically descriptive language, dubbed vulgar by some, to describe why he thought men should prefer heterosexual relations to homosexual relations, and concluded his statements by referring to sin as “not logical.”

The fallout which resulted from the comments made by Duck Dynasty’s “commander” was immediate. A spokesperson for GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) released statements condemning the comments made by Phil, and conveyed that the LGBT community was deeply offended by the Duck Dynasty head man’s remarks. The response from the LGBT community was powerful, causing A&E to take action in an attempt to remedy the situation.

The remedy? The network suspended Phil indefinitely and issued statements of remorse reassuring the LGBT community of its support for their cause.

The decision by A&E has placed the network and the Robertson family in a precarious position. Duck Dynasty fans have expressed massive support for Phil and the Robertson family, and have gone as far as to make Facebook petitions requesting that the network return Phil to the hit show.

The Duck Dynasty family, forced to decide how to proceed, has recently released statements saying, “We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm.” The family further stated, “We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for ‘Duck Dynasty.'” In essence, the response may lead to the position, “No Phil, no show.”

The A&E network, may have put themselves in a tough position as well by suspending the lead man. The network however was, in its defense, in a no-win situation. If it remained silent, it would certainly have faced a greater outcry by those offended by Phil’s statements, but as is seen now, taking action against Phil was not without consequence either. The network however made its decision, and the future will determine exactly how this debacle plays out.

The family made it clear to their fans that their decision had been reached after “much time in prayer” and re-emphasized that a top priority for the Duck Dynasty cast has been and will remain their faith in God and their belief in the Bible.

The Duck Dynasty clan also recognized that the comments made by their leading man were coarse, but supported Phil in his remarks by saying “his his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: ‘Love the LORD your God with all your heart’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

The response from the Duck Dynasty clan concluded with the family expressing their disappointment in the actions taken to suspend Phil for what they believe was his Constitutionally guaranteed right of free speech.

As fans of the hit show, along with those offended by Phil’s remarks, wait for a decision regarding Duck Dynasty’s future, the family’s response for now appears to be, “No Phil, no show.”
