Google Releasing 10 New Chromecast Apps for the Holidays

Google Releasing 10 New Chromecast AppsGoogle has announced the release of 10 new Chromecast apps just in time for the holiday season. Chromecast is Google’s HDMI TV dongle that allows a user to stream and view content from their laptops and computer, as well as online content to their TV.

Originally, the release of Chromecast only supported a total of 5 apps, but HBO Go and Pandora were recently added to Google’s service. The other existing Chromecast apps are: Netflix; Hulu Plus; YouTube; Google Play TV and Movies; and Google Play Music. With the holiday season upon us, these 10 new apps are a huge addition to Chromecast and they will more than double the choices for consumers of Google’s $35 dongle.

The random new list of apps with a brief simplified description and current rating taken from Google Play are:

1. Red Bull.TV

This app will bring in a variety of Red Bull programs and live events from around the world. Some of the HD content is music, adventure, surfing, snowboarding, motorsports, skateboarding and biking. The app has a 4.3 star rating on Google Play.

2. Songza

The Songza app brings a streaming music service that is chalk-full of playlists that will match anybody’s taste or mood. This app has a 4.6 star rating on Google Play.

3. VEVO

This app will stream exclusive HD videos, top charts and playlists, concerts, premieres and other special events. The VEVO app has a 4.2 star rating on Google Play.

4. PostTV

This app will bring the Washington Post right to your living room TV screen. It will cover ideas and issues right from Washington, covering the top news of the day. The app has a 4.4 star rating on Google Play.

5. Viki

Viki brings TV shows and music videos to your HDTV in different languages from all around the world. The content is subbed in one of your 150 choices of languages. This app has a 3.4 star rating on Google Play.

6. BeyondPod

This app will probably be your favorite Podcast manager. It’s loaded with free audio and video shows populated from around the world. The BeyondPod app has a 4.3 star rating on Google Play.

7. Revision 3

Revision 3 allows you to play a variety of shows from Diggnation, Tekzilla, and Film Riot, just to name a few. The app has a 4.0 star rating on Google Play.

8. RealPlayer Cloud

Everybody’s heard of RealPlayer, the music and video player available for desktops and laptops. Now RealPlayer Cloud allows someone to upload their own videos and the app will convert it to be accessed on any type of supported device. The most popular formats supported are FLV, MP4, AVI, MOV, XVID, MKV, WMV and DIVX. The app has a 4.3 star rating on Google Play.

9. Plex

Plex is a convenient way of organizing media like: photos; music; videos; and home movies. This app allows you to use features to add metadata and artwork to your media to add your artistic flare. It allows you to sync media with devices and cloud servers like Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive. You can also select programming channels from TWiT and TED as well as Vimeo and YouTube. The Plex app has a 3.5 star rating on Google Play.

10. Avia

This app is a media management app that lets you organize videos, music and photos from a number of sources. This app has a 4.0 star rating on Google Play.

Some of the 10 newly released apps may seem a little redundant, but it offers a wider choice to Google’s customers based on their own personal taste. However, with the holidays quickly approaching Chromecast users will likely appreciate Chromecast’s gift of choice.
