Khloé Kardashian, 29, opts for the single life and filed for a divorce on Friday Dec. 13, on the grounds of “irreconcilable differences.” Lamar Odom and Khloé Kardashian were married in Sept. 2009 and they just couldn’t save the marriage. The short-lived “I do” pact was fraught with problems for the couple with no children, but it had a solid prenuptial agreement that secured each party’s own assets as his and her own.
Supposedly, Kardashian had long been wanting to end the marriage, but she hung in there for two reasons. First, she had hoped things would work out and the marriage would last. Kardashian and Odom sought therapy from a marriage counselor with a session that ran longer than two hours, reports say. More than likely, they rehashed the incident of Odom “going missing” for some time, after which Kardashian forgave him and remained hopeful by their reconciliation. They were also going to counseling separately.
Earlier this year, she learned that Odom has had a crack addiction and this caused her to express deep concerns about their marriage. By summertime, their relationship had become riddle with Odom’s drug addiction, a temporary stay in rehab, a DWI arrest, and supposed infidelity with divorce in the wings, various reports stated. Kardashian stalled filing for divorce until now because she had feared Odom would not accept the news well and might overdose.
Odom, however, came out with a peculiar rap video last month in which he boasts about being unfaithful to his wife while she’s out of town, and that was all Kardashian needed to hear. No sooner than she saw the video on TMZ, Kardashian removed her wedding band and Odom had to go and live elsewhere with his friends.
Apparently, Odom has his side of the story, too. According to Sports Mole, Odom wanted a divorce as well. He claimed that Kardashian brought the worst out in him and that he couldn’t mess with her anymore.
So while instant happiness wasn’t even close in the love charts after all and the therapy sessions could not mend the strained marriage, Khloé Kardashian opts for the single life and files for divorce. But how “single” is she, really?
According to Radar Online, Kardashian was accompanied by basketball star Matt Kemp, 29, on several occasions recently. On Nov. 25, they supposedly attended a Drake concert and were sitting together in the VIP section, and even smiled for photographers. They also went to John Legend’s show in early Dec., and they have been to the gym together although they use separate entrances, for whatever the reason.
Apparently, Kemp is very comfortable with the Kardashian family in Calabasas. They have had him over for visits. On Thursday, he went on Instagram and posted a lovely photo of the Kardashian family Christmas tree. His caption read that this is the best time of the year and that it is going to be a California Christmas for him this year.
Rihanna and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ player Kemp dated in 2010. Kemp is free to date Kardashian. Hopefully, Odom accepts this twist without any issues during their divorce. Also, as Khloé Kardashian opts for the single life, may she give herself a fresh start in the right direction, after she has finalized the divorce.
