Lebanon to Purchase $3 Billion in French Weapons

Saudi Arabia has promised a $3 billion grant to Lebanon to assist in the purchase of weapons from France. The Canadian Globe and Mail has reported that Saudi Arabia is pledging the largest grant ever for Lebanon’s military structure.

Michel Sleiman, the President of Lebanon, made the surprise television announcement in a national address on Dec. 29.

The announcement came without further details. The Lebanese army has battled to control a wave of violence related to civil war in nearby Syria threatening Lebanese stability.
