Jonas brother, Joe, has revealed that he was introduced to smoking weed by former Disney co-stars Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, and now Cyrus has something to say about it as well.
Jonas reported in an interview with the New York Times earlier this month that the first time he smoked marijuana was with Cyrus and Lovato and that he feels that they pressured him into doing it. Jonas recalls being 17 or 18 years old at the time, putting Cyrus and Lovato at about 14 or 15. In reference to the incident, Cyrus has been quoted as saying “we were so young that it was actually like, “How did you get peer-pressured by me?”
Cyrus further indicated that she didn’t think Jonas did anything that he didn’t want to do when they smoked together and that “two little girls,” referring to herself and Lovato, couldn’t have pressured him anyway. Cyrus also said that she thought maybe he was just trying to “look badass” by referencing his drug use and an association with the two starlets who have been making headlines for their outrageous antics in recent months.
When Jonas and his brothers announced their decision to cancel 19 tour dates last fall, rumors circulated that although “creative differences” and “a deep rift in the band” were blamed for the cancellation, it was actually Jonas’s substance abuse issues that were to blame. He was even reported to have been seen with a known addiction specialist who had previously worked with Lovato, Jonas’s ex-love.
Lovato has been very open about her past struggles not only with alcohol and drugs but with an eating disorder and bipolar disorder as well. She says that she is now trying to work to be a better role model for young women and hopes that her blatant honesty may help other young stars avoid the same path to destruction.
As for Cyrus, her affection for marijuana has been well broadcast in recent months. As far back as her days as Disney’s Hannah Montana, rumors have floated that she was smoking weed, Jonas’s report that he smoked with Cyrus and Lovato at least six or seven years ago seems to confirm that information. In younger years, Cyrus was caught taking bong hits on video causing a bit of a scandal as she was still playing the wholesome role of Disney sweetheart and was adored as a role model for young girls.
These days, Cyrus makes little effort to hide her marijuana use. At the 2013 MTV European Music Awards she lit up a joint on stage upon accepting her award for Best Video of the Year. She has also been quoted as saying that “weed is the best drug on Earth.”
Despite her open approach to weed smoking, she also says that she has no interest in glamorizing the drug and that she wouldn’t want her younger sister to smoke it, she would want her sister to decide for herself if weed should be a part of her life. She claims that she isn’t trying to pressure influence anyone to do anything saying only, “I would rather have everything I do be 100 percent honest. I just want to be who I am.”
Today Cyrus, Lovato and Jonas appear to each be on very different paths, despite having had similar starts to their careers, but smoking weed appears to be a front and center part of life only for Cyrus.
