Phil Robertson, the patriarch of a duck whistling family, returns to A&E’s Duck Dynasty after being suspended Dec. 18 from the hit reality series. He has not missed filming of any new episodes.
Robertson’s suspension stemmed from an interview he had with GQ, in which he expressed a distaste for homosexuals and their “lifestyle.” His comments set social media on fire, and the network was forced to put Robertson on temporary suspension.
A&E released a statement, explaining Robertson’s return to Duck Dynasty:
“As a global media content company, A+E Networks’ core values are centered around creativity … We believe it is a privilege for our brands to be invited into people’s home and we operate with a strong sense of integrity and deep commitment to these principals.”
The reasoning behind A&E to reinstate Robertson to the show is due to the fact the reality series is about family and not one man. Although the network does not share Robertson’s views on homosexuality, A&E is looking forward to having the patriarch return to Duck Dynasty.
Duck Dynasty brings in the big bucks for A&E so it’s understandable the network is loathe to give up on the show so easily. A&E’s decision to allow Robertson back, however, will not sit well with many people but fans will be happy enough.
The family is currently on hiatus from filming as it is duck hunting season right now in Louisiana.
