Fans of the popular legal series, The Good Wife along with Bruce Springsteen, will be thrilled to hear that Springsteen’s brand new album, High Hopes, is set to premiere and feature in the episode airing on January 12. On top of this, one whole day before the release of the album on January 14, it will also be possible to hear his latest future hits on the CBS website.
This will be Springsteen’s 18th album recorded in studio and will be streamed in its total entirety on the CBS website from January 13, with snippets playing here and there in the latest episode of the popular series, The Good Wife.
Hunter of Invisible Game, the title song of the album was released during December 2013, but everything else is pretty much brand new. The only other exception is The Ghost of Tom Joad, which is reportedly a remake of the title track of one of Springsteen’s 1995 albums.
Springsteen’s record label, Columbia Records, together with CBS, are collaborating to give wider exposure to the new album in a more original and unconventional way. They also hope to attract his Baby Boomer fans to watch The Good Wife, making it a win-win situation for everyone involved. Reportedly CBS did pay a licensing fee in order to play the Bruce Springsteen songs from the new album in the January 12 episode.
Michelle King and her husband, Robert are the co-creators of the show. She told the media that they were both very excited at the prospect of the potential of this episode as they are both huge Springsteen fans.
The show’s writer, Keith Eisner, who hails from New Jersey, was apparently also extremely excited when he heard that the music was going to be used in the show. King said that he “literally jumped up and down” at the news.
According to Robert King, they were initially only going to use one song in the episode, but during a secret listening session, they “got greedy” and decided to choose three. The one they chose first was High Hopes, because of its “driving momentum.” They then chose Invisible Game to use in the closing scenes of the show.
Apparently the 12th episode of the season had already been written and filmed when the deal was put together. It was just a matter of slotting in those great Springsteen sounds.
Reportedly Springsteen recorded versions of all 12 songs in the 10 years before his last album was released, but only three of the songs were actually released in that form. Springsteen recorded all the songs freshly for the new album, which also features cover versions of Suicide’s Dreams Baby Dream and Just Like Fire Would by the Saints.
In a statement announcing the new CBS deal, Bruce Springsteen said:
“This is music I always felt needed to be released. I felt they all deserved a home and a hearing.”
According to the producers the episode, which is titled We Are Juries, features Alicia, (played by Julianna Margulies) playing opposite in court with her former partner Will (Josh Charles) and looks like being an exciting episode.
So if you are a fan of either The Good Wife or the Boss, Bruce Springsteen tune in to the January 12 episode to enjoy the premiere of the new album. We have included a little taste of the album for you below:
