Do you love video games? How about raising money for cancer? Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 is hosting a seven-day event for both. The stream is up and has been running since yesterday, January 5 and is scheduled to go on until January 11. All donations will go to the nonprofit group working towards cancer research and education known as the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The new year has begun and already greatness is being achieved. Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 is an annual event (this being the fourth) meant to help raise money for a great cause through the enjoyment of video games. Many extremely skilled gamers demonstrate their abilities and strategies in a manner that is spectacular to watch.
This years schedule has a list of games across many years and platforms. Keep in mind this is not the entire list, but here is a quick look at some of the excellent titles scheduled to be played:
- Jak and Daxter
- Pikman 3
- Kirby’s Adventure
- Duck Tales
- Deus Ex
- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
- Katamary Damacy
- Resident Evil 4
- Halo 2
- Metal Gear Solid
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Fire Emblem Sacred Stones (or Fire Emblem 7, currently in bid war)
- Secret of Mana
- Golden Axe
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
- Chrono Trigger
- A ton of Mega Man games
While donation are all going to the same foundation they can be directed toward certain games or identifying factors. For example, if you want to suggest a particular name for a The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening speedrun, you can. Maybe you want to see a harder difficulty, costume, or even game make an appearance, at the bottom this article under the related links section you find a list of current donations and possible fun twists to donate to.
Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 has set a pretty high goal, $500,000 but they have said that if this donation goal is met they will continue to increase the goal until the end of the marathon on January 11. Those that donate can send a message or shout out with it that is announced over the stream and entered into a raffle. There are tons of video game oriented prizes to be had, the list can be found at the bottom of the article.
Seven day video game speedrun marathon, Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 donates all collections towards the Prevent Cancer Foundation and will be going on until January 11. If you love video games from any era there is a good possibility you’ll see them played here and for a good cause. The seven-day event began at 9:00 am on Sunday and will continue, non-stop until it finishes around midnight at the end of Saturday. The finally is set to be the classic, Chrono Trigger and has a number of great prizes to go along with it. Share your support for ending cancer and playing video games by donating and watching.
