Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva did not waste much time getting acquainted on the new Ultimate Fighter Set by getting into their first scuffle of the season. Both fighters will be the new coaches of the Ultimate Fighter TV series in Brazil this upcoming season. Just last year they had the famed rivalry between the first ever female coaches on the show, Rhonda Rousey and Meisha Tate. Looks as though this season might have quite a few more fireworks in store with these two running the show now.
The issues between Sonnen and Silva steamed back to when Sonnen first fought in Brazil against Anderson Silva. Chael made some quite controversial statements about Brazil on his Twitter account early this year. Making fun of Brazil’s education systems, cracking on their public icon in Anderson Silva, along other statements with his twitter rant. Needless to say he got under more then just Anderson Silva’s skin with the public comments made to many fighters home country in Brazil.
Wanderlei Silva was one of the many fighters to come out and publicly challenge Chael Sonnen. Last year the two met face to face at the Olympia Expo hosted in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wanderlei Silva had to be restrained from attacking Sonnen, shouting obscenities as he was being pulled away from the confrontation. Since being in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) though, Silva has somewhat underachieved since entering the UFC, winning only four out of nine matches in the UFC. Sonnen has not done as well lately either, losing four out of his last seven fights; to his defense three of those fights were for the middleweight and light heavyweight championships respectfully.
Each fighter comes into this ultimate fighter series creating their own legacies in completely different ways. Since entering the UFC Chael Sonnen has been one of the most brash and outspoken UFC fighters in years. One of the best self promoters has spent most of his years talking himself into big fights with some of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. Silva has taken a no prisoners approach when it comes to fighting. Considered one of the best and most violent fighters of his generation; Wanderlei’s fights usually do not find a decision result, either winning or losing.
Reports have surfaced that the two broke out in a brawl, Sonnen getting the better of the two and getting a take down while taking mount on Wanderlei Silva. Sources say one of Silva’s coaches on the Ultimate Fighter interfered with the scrum and sucker punched Sonnen in the back of the head. Just recently people close to the situation have said the Sonnen was not seriously by the punch but was feeling a bit of pain, the coach has been said to be Andre Amande, a striking coach for Silva’s camp. Fans are hoping they save the physical part of the rivalry for a few months so they can see it in the octagon; but with Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva already scuffling on the Ultimate Fighter it seems as if there may be more drama then ever on the “T.U.F” set.
