Earthquake Rocks Puerto Rico at 6.5 Magnitude

Puerto Rico Earthquake

At 4:01:04 UTC on Monday, January 13, 2014 an earthquake rocked Puerto Rico.  The magnitude of the quake was 6.5.

The earthquake, which was located at 18.997°N 66.829°, occurred about 35 miles (56 km) N of Hatillo, Puerto Rico.  In addition, it was 36 miles (58 km) NNE of Isabela, 37 miles (59 km) NNW of Arecibo, 42 miles (67 km) NNW of Barceloneta and 60 miles (96 km) NW of San Juan.

The earthquake reached a depth of 17.7 miles (28.5 km).

NWS Miami is reporting that there is no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
