Possible Explosive Device at Katy, Texas School

A student was taken into police custody on Monday afternoon after a possible explosive device was found at Seven Lakes High School in Katy, Texas.

Around 10:00 a.m. all 3,000 students were evacuated to the football and baseball fields after the Katy ISD police department learned that there might be a threat at the school’s campus.  According to school district officials, the potential threat which was identified was a suspicious-looking backpack that was found on the east side of the school.

The FBI, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston Police Department bomb squad all joined in the search and device was found at about 11:00 a.m.

The students were eventually moved to the Seven Lakes Junior High School and were dismissed from school at 1:30 p.m.  All students without transportation were to be bussed to their homes.  Students with cars were going be searched before being released.  Parents who were picking up their students were instructed to go to Seven Lakes Junior High School.

The school reports that all after-school activities have been canceled.
