Thousands of Gmail users were affected as the service crashed this afternoon. The outage began around 2pm Eastern standard time and affected users all across the world from the United States, to Britain, to Australia. Partial functionality was restored within the hour, but currently users are still experiencing slowdowns and difficulties accessing the service. Issues have also been reported with Google’s YouTube service.
The outage affected people from all walks of life as individuals could not conduct personal conversations, and businesses lost the ability to communicate with their customers.
