Mike Pettine Gets Cleveland Browns Coaching Job

 Mike Pettine

Mike Pettine will get his first chance as a head coach with the Cleveland Browns. He spent several years under the wing of current head coach of the New York Jets, Rex Ryan. Mike was hired this last season to be the defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills under Doug Marrone.  He sparked some life into a defense that ranked towards the bottom the last few years. The Bills ranked in the top ten in passing defense and became more aggressive putting pressure on the quarterback; sending blitzes 38 percent of the time on opponents drop backs. He will look to do the same as becomes the new Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns and bring success back to the Dog Pound.

Is it just me or does anybody else think that some of these guys on the “coaching carousel” are better suited to be Offensive Coordinators or Defensive Coordinators or position coaches ? How many times are guys like Caldwell, Kubiack, Whisenhut, etc. going to be given the shot at Head Coach only to field a average team at best ? Don’t get me wrong, they’re very good in their disciplines but Head coaching isn’t one of them.
