New York City’s Most Popular Singles According to Dating Site

New York CityThere is a dating site for singles out there called PlentyOfFish (in the sea, obviously), more commonly known as POF, and they have found out the recipe for the most popular singles out there, particularly in New York City.

The dating site has been doing quite a bit of research on singles in New York City.  Now they say they have come up with the ideal personality combinations to make it in the game of love online.

According to POF, the “most desirable” single girl in the Big Apple would be a 25-year-old Catholic gal, who loves and owns a dog, goes to the gym regularly to keep fit and goes drinking around three times each week.

Not only that, but she should also have attained a graduate degree, have had a relationship at some stage of at least three years in length (but not longer than eight years), and should be bringing in a salary of between $50,000 and $75,000.  Do you fit the bill, ladies?

On the male side of the equation, the most wanted would be an athletic Christian guy, between the ages of 23 and 35 years old, preferably with brown hair.  He must want to have children and be a social drinker.  On the career side of things, he should have an advanced degree and earn between $100,000 and $150,000 annually.

Lindsay Tigar, a 25-year-old digital editor and blogger on the Upper West Side of New York City, almost fits the profile.  She owns a Pomeranian cross called Lucy, but there is one little problem.  Turns out she’s Methodist, not Catholic, but she says she wouldn’t be opposed to converting if it is important to the right guy.

However, being so close to the most popular combination makes one wonder why she is still single.  It turns out that she is in no hurry.  What she says is that she will always have a dog to cuddle up to, even after a bad date.  She would rather just wait for the perfect guy.

A close match on the male side of the coin is Thomas Lautenschlager, a sales engineer living on the Upper West Side who arrived in the Big Apple about eight months ago.  Apparently Thomas has had about 80 dates since he arrived – not bad going.  But while playing the field, he is also ready to find the right girl.

He says he wants to find a “best friend” that he would enjoy having sex with and to share life experiences with.  According to POF, this is pretty much what everyone is looking for in life.

Sarah Goodman, a spokeswoman for the dating site, says that they analyzed the volume of messages between 81,000 straight singles across the US. They took a date range of  between 25 and 35 to give a good idea of what the most desirable attributes are in a single.

Goodman said that their research identified several gender biases that one would expect to have moved past in the 21st century.

One bias that comes to light is that men are really looking for women that are young and thin.  Big surprise.  Apparently those single girls who identify themselves as being thin get a whole 41 percent more messages via the dating site.

And women?  What do you think they are mainly looking for?  Surprise, surprise, the guys who make between $100,000 and $150,000 annually get around 42 percent more contacts from the ladies.

The actual dating site company is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, and has an audience primarily in Canada, but is also active in Australia, Brazil, Ireland, the U.K. and U.S.  Spanish singles also have access to their services.  The site is free to use, as it generates its revenue via advertising.

So, if living in New York City and have the right attributes you can also become one of the most popular singles on the dating site.
