Nun Gives Birth and Did Not Know She Was Pregnant

u.s., nun, giving birth, pregnant

An unidentified nun, age 31, has given birth to a baby boy and has told everyone she did not know she was even pregnant. She was taken to a hospital in the Italian city of Rieti after she complained of severe stomach cramps. When she got to the hospital, she was diagnosed as being in labor. The young woman, who originally comes from the country of El Salvador, ended up giving birth to a boy who weighed in at nine pounds. She named her baby boy Francis after the present Pope, according to news reports. Mother and baby were reported to both be doing fine and other new moms that were also in the hospital were going around collecting clothes for the child.

Simone Petrangeli, who is the mayor of Rieti, Italy, has requested the media and the general public to give the woman some privacy after the news raised a large amount of public attention. This Italian city is extremely small, with a population of less than 50,000 people. The woman was rushed to the local hospital by an emergency vehicle on Wednesday morning. It was only a few hours later that she had given birth to a baby boy.

She was reported as saying that she did not realize she was even pregnant, she said that she only felt stomach pains. The woman was a nun at the Little Disciples of Jesus convent, which was near Rieti. The convent was in charge of a home for elderly sick people.

Other nuns who reside at the convent exclaimed that they were surprised at the news of their fellow nun’s pregnancy, to say the least, because the nun had taken a vow of chastity. Local Catholic priest Don Fabrizio Borrello stated that the new mother said she planned on taking care of her new baby.

He added that he thought she was telling the truth when she said she was unaware of her pregnancy when she got to the hospital. The nun herself is telling everyone that she never had any type of sexual intercourse. However, not many people seem to believe her story. The mother superior at the convent where she lived declared that it appeared she was unable to resist temptation.

Supposedly in the back of the ambulance, the paramedics told her she was in labor but she responded to them that that was not possible because she was a nun. Yet they were right and later in the morning her son was born. It may be hard to believe, but a recent survey of nearly 8,000 American females discovered that nearly one percent of the applicants stated they also were virgins, despite having had children. The women declared they had never had any type of sexual intercourse, nor had they had any type of aided reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization.

The Catholic Church is very displeased with the new mother, stating it believes she hid the pregnancy. Nuns have to take three vows: one of chastity, one of poverty and one of obedience. The vow of chastity means that nuns are not to marry or have sex. The nun will be severely reprimanded for breaking her vow, and it will be most desirable if she now leads some sort of secular life away from any religious institutions, with her baby.

The nun has given birth to her baby boy and now will have to live with the aftermath. One cannot help but wonder where the father is? This is a sad story on all fronts.

Wow, after reading some of these blasphemous comments, we truly must be living in the last days. I will pray that God will forgive you, because you know not what you say!

The original meaning of the word ‘virgin’ was unmarried mother. Virgin Mary simply referred to a woman named Mary who was an unmarried mother. Nothing mystical about it. #HistoryOfLanguage

I don’t think that this woman is lying, just misinformed. Anyone who has taken a HS sexual education course knows that women can become pregnant even when intimate relations stop short of actual coitus.

For anyone fooling around, I will not lecture you about the ethics of your behavior. I will simply state that you still need to wrap the pickle- even if you don’t put it into the jar- if you want to avoid another sort of pickle.

I think a DNA test could prove to be verrrry interesting here, especially if the date of conception was after her vows were taken.

I’ve heard of parthenogenesis in bees, but never in human beings.

I wonder if it is possible this woman was drugged and then raped? Maybe she really, really didn’t know. And maybe she would be willing to take a lie detector test? At any rate, as a new Catholic I will be watching this story to see fellow Catholics demonstrating grace and kindness in this situation. Love that she named the baby Francis. ;)_

It’s not an immaculate conception. That was a one time event for a very specific purpose, and Mary not only had a credible witness i.e. the Angel Gabriel, as well as JESUS miracles in Life and resurrection after death. Only an idiot would think they could use the “Immaculate Conception” defense. When JESUS said “it is finished” on the cross HE meant it. i.e. the first Prophecy ever made found in Genesis 3:19 was fulfilled. The reason why it had to be an Immaculate Conception was to keep the Male Genetic Material i.e. sin (death came by Adam) out of the equation ( ever heard of Like father like son). So please stop with the stupid comments okay. You want to knock someone to feel better about yourself and your life decisions fine but being blasphemous is unnecessary whether you believe in GOD or not.
FYI- The woman (who has been identified and interviewed) isn’t claiming ‘Immaculate Conception” she knows who the father is (and has named him) and is claiming she did not know she was pregnant when she took her vow of chastity. The only information I have not been able to verify is when she took her vow. That would settle this issue.

p.s. When commenting on issues, please try to read from more than one source. That way you don’t end up looking like an idiot.

HAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA a ‘credible witness’, the angel gabriel. HAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. What a moron. So can you ask this witness to come forward to prove what he saw? No? Then maybe you need to crack a DICTIONARY instead of a bible and look up the word, CREDIBLE.

      • Jay   February 1, 2014 at 8:59 am

        Whether or not one can come forward to prove what was seen is irrelevant in proving how one is credible. By your logic Julius Caesar isn’t a credible witness to the Roman Empire since we can’t ask him to come forward to prove what he saw. Maybe you need to look up the word too -_-;;

Ummm….. the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary being preserved from original sin when she was born….

      • C. Decided   February 3, 2014 at 12:48 am

Except that Julius Caesar was a real person seen by thousands of people, with ample historical evidence as to his existence.

WAY more evidence than can be shown for the existence of the angel Gabriel… and no, the bible is not evidence. No matter how much you want it to be evidence… no matter how much you believe it to be evidence… it’s not evidence.

For that matter, there’s way more historical evidence of the existence of Julius Caesar than of Jesus of Nazareth. Way more…

You might as well say Ronald Reagan wasn’t a credible witness to being shot by John Hinkley because *he’s* dead, too.

The Bible is a two thousand plus year old game of Telephone that demands one believe in an unfalsifiable entity and its equally unfalsifiable servants. There is little credible about the Bible when it is taken on face value… it’s a collection of Iron age fairy tales, and there is absolutely no evidence that angels exist.

        Otherwise, Jay is right.
The Immaculate Conception does not refer to the conception of Jesus. It refers to the Catholic doctrine that states that Mary was born without original sin so she could be god’s broodmare.

There is also no evidence of her, either.

Miz, the difference is that Mary knew and how she would get pregnant but this nun didn’t. This nun is either stupid or naive or simply lying. Please don’t speak for the Christians if you are not one.

  11. Pumpuiyai   January 19, 2014 at 12:32 am

Clearly, somebody got into the habit.

  12. Miz   January 18, 2014 at 4:57 pm

So it’s an immaculate conception but no one believes her???
I don’t believe it either but I also don’t believe Mary.
If this had happened 2000 years ago, no one would doubt her.
Unless she admits to breaking her chasity vow, she will probably be flocked by people who think her baby is jesus.

    • Jay   February 1, 2014 at 9:10 am

People clearly have no idea what the Immaculate Conception is… and it’s not the Virgin Birth of Christ…

“If this had happened 2000 years ago, no one would doubt her.” Except people did? Even Joseph her husband (before having been convinced of an angel) planned to divorce her quietly because clearly he didn’t have relations with her and she would be stoned to death if other people found out. It was a preposterous then as it would be now if somebody claimed a virgin birth (NOT an immaculate conception).
