Plane Crash in Aspen

A plane has crashed on the runway at the Aspen Airport. Details are still coming in, but the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the crash. Tweets from several individuals, including comedian Kevin Nealon and singer Leanne Rimes Cibrian, describe the explosion of what appears to be a small private jet.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration the plane involved in the crash is a Bombardier Challenger 600, a 68-foot business class jet produced by Bombardier Aerospace. The plane is believed to have originated in either Tucson, Arizona or across the border in Mexico.

The Aspen airport is currently closed as firefighters and emergency personnel respond to the incident.

The condition of the crew and passengers, as well as the cause of the crash has yet to be determined, but there are unconfirmed reports of injuries. More as details emerge on the breaking story of the plane crash in Aspen.
