Top seeded Rafael Nadal was beaten by eighth seeded Stanislas Wawrinka in the Australian open today. The men’s final was a hard-fought event with the game stretching to four sets. Wawrinka beat the in-form Nadal comprehensively to win the men’s singles title with the final score of 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
The win in the 2014 version of the Australian Open was the first grand slam of Wawrinka’s career. The match played at the Rod Laver Arena experienced the emergence of another champion on to the world stage.
