Real Housewives of Atlanta Apollo Nida is under federal investigation for alleged fraud and identity theft. His arrest Saturday has social media and Twitter buzzing hot from the many fans of the Bravo TV show and those who believed Apollo Nida to be a “good guy.” Though Nida had served prison time from 2004 to 2009 for fraud, the fans were forgiving of this man’s past.
On the show, Nida is known for being the good attentive husband and Father to housewife/attorney/funeral director Phaedra Parks and their two sons. The Real Housewives of Atlanta is infamous for explosive drama that has their ratings skyrocketing, according to Bravo Ratings, over 3.6 million viewers tune in. The husbands on the Real Housewives franchises tend to play supporting roles to their successful wives. When the fans hear of a husband involved in suspect activity, it is a shock.
Fox News reported back on November 13, 2013 Real Housewives of New Jersey husband Joe Giudice has been indicted for bank fraud, possibly facing prison time and being deported back to Italy. Real Housewives of Beverly Hills husband Russell Armstrong committed suicide back in 2011 allegedly from facing financial ruin trying to keep up his wife’s upscale image for the cameras. Many are drawn to the show because of the bling, high-end cars, $3,000 pair of shoes, elaborate homes and fabulous social lives. Viewers are now wondering if the husbands are under too much pressure to keep up with the “Joneses” for their wives images on the reality show. Nida’s day job is still unknown. It is not reported how Nida is able to afford such a lavish lifestyle with his family in Buckhead, an affluent community of Atlanta, Georgia. The only information reported of his career is his past prison record, a work-out DVD he filmed with his wife Phaedra Parks, and the alleged current criminal activities.
According to TMZ, Nida allegedly opened fake bank accounts in the names of identities he had stolen from fake companies conjured up in order to get access to steal the victim’s information. The report goes on to say he held onto U.S. Treasury checks, Delta airline employee retirement checks and unclaimed tax funds. Though Nida has already appeared in federal court, he is still innocent until proven guilty. US Weekly reported his partner in crime (Gayla St. Julien), who was arrested this past September for criminal activity, recorded Nida explaining the scheme in detail. With this Real Housewives of Atlanta husband under federal investigation, the fans are torn between supporting the star through this dark time or feel sympathy for the possible victims in the fraud.
Whoever came up with such a mastermind fraud and identity theft scheme definitely had misguided talent. Instead of becoming a reality television star, a mind such as this could be the next Bill Gates or Warren Buffet. A mind that could orchestrate in detail a blueprint with 3.6 million viewers watching every step, every move from their living room should be working for the CIA or FBI – not reduced to the expectations of playing a supporting role to a wife’s high-end demands.
Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Nida is under federal investigation and it is not a good look for real life or television. Nida could possibly be added to the growing casualty list of struggling reality TV husbands trying to project a successful life, unsuccessfully. How much more can “real” get?
